Gusty winds, heavy rain and mountain snow Tuesday

A storm is moving through southern New Mexico this morning, and bringing showers and thunderstorms to eastern New Mexico. As easterly winds come in over the Sandia’s, we will see strong gusts up to 55 mph in the middle Rio Grande Valley and south-central mountains throughout the morning and midday. The winds will die down this afternoon as the wind direction shifts from easterly to north/northwesterly.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible all day in east/southeast New Mexico, and up to 1.50 inches of rain accumulation will be possible. Other areas like the Rio Grande Valley, northern and western mountains will only see lighter, isolated showers possible today. The Sacramento Mountains will see snowfall, and around 2 to 5 inches will be possible, with locally higher amounts.
