The Met Gala has invited several K-pop stars to the yearly event, including Blackpink Jennie, NCT Johnny, Stray Kids, and more. However, Grammy-nominated K-pop superstars BTS have not appeared at the Met Gala despite several rumors of them attending it.
BTS has been partnering with luxury fashion brands for a while. After releasing multiple Billboard Hot 100 topper hit singles, all seven members of BTS became brand ambassadors of luxury brand Louis Vuitton in 2021. In July of this year, the K-pop juggernauts collaborated with late fashion designer Virgil Abloh to launch a spin-off to his Fall 2021 Louis Vuitton Collection.
After the brand ambassadorship of Louis Vuitton, many wondered if the group would appear at the 2022 Met Gala. But “Dynamite” crooners left fans astounded by staying away from all the fashion events (at that time), including the Met Gala.
Why did BTS Jimin & Suga skip attending the 2023 Met Gala?
Since 2023, BTS’s solo era has changed the dynamic of the members’ activities. Several BTS members who are brand ambassadors of various luxury brands have appeared at Paris Fashion Week, but Met Gala has yet to meet the singers at the annual event.
In 2023, there were rumors that BTS Suga and Jimin, official brand ambassadors of Valentino, Dior, and Tiffany & Co, would attend the Met Gala. But the Bangtan members skipped the event.
As per reports, the tight-packed schedule of Suga and Jimin was why the K-pop stars skipped the event. The “Daechwita” crooner was in the midst of his world tour as he had two shows on April 29 and May 3. So fans speculated that he wanted to take a rest in between and not attend the event, which occurred on May 1st.
Meanwhile, Jimin traveled to the United States to support BTS Suga in his concert, and it looked like his schedule also did not allow him any more time to attend the fashion event after that.
As of now, six out of seven BTS members are brand ambassadors of various luxury brands. Namjoon, aka RM, is the face of Bottega Veneta, J-Hope represents Louis Vuitton, and Jimin is the brand ambassador of Dior and Tiffany & Co.,
On the other hand, Suga is Valentino’s face, and V is Cartier and Celine’s official ambassador. The youngest member, Jungkook, is working with Calvin Klein Jeans. So, BTS ARMY speculates that the K-pop septet may appear at the Met Gala after finishing their military training in 2025.
While BTS has yet to attend the Met Gala, their Grammy red carpet looks have made headlines in the past. The group’s coordinated outfits sent fans into a frenzy, with many hailing it as the best look at the event.
BTS wore all monochromatic looks from Louis Vuitton on their 2022 dapper Grammy appearance. Before that, the group stunned the fans by wearing all black and gray in the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, re-defining the ‘Smooth As Butter’ look.
