She commended Vice President Kamala Harris for her record on the environment and claimed that while Harris was California’s Attorney General, she held polluters accountable for spilling oil in the San Francisco Bay.

She also touted that as Vice President, Harris cast the tie-breaking vote for the Inflation Reduction Act which included measures to fight climate change. She then went after Trump’s environmental policies while in an interview, New Mexican Republicans defended them. “He called the climate crisis a hoax. He made it easier for big companies to poison our air and water,” said Secretary Haaland.

“She’s touting plans that will kill the New Mexico economy. You get forty to fifty percent of your tax base from the oil and gas fields that she’d like to shut down,” said Chairman Steve Pearce, Republican Party of New Mexico.

Pearce also said he expects people to vote based on inflation and the impact on their wallets, rather than climate change.
