Jess Glynne has revealed that she almost quit music altogether due to “the scrutiny” she faced online.

The ‘Rather Be’ hitmaker opened up about the situation in a new interview with The Independent. She explained that the “way it [online criticism] made me feel, the pure slog, the scrutiny,” were driving factors as to why she debated leaving her music career behind.
“The amount that I’ve put in and the self-belief and the fight and the battles (I’ve gone through with) myself and with people around me to get to where I am, I was like: ‘Nah man, you can’t throw it all away,’” she told the publication (as per Music News).
Glynne has released her third studio album ‘Jess’ today (April 26). The singer shared that she hopes the album is able to help people “understand the person” she is after years of feeling “misunderstood”.

“I feel like I have been misunderstood and I think that’s something that I don’t want to continue in my career. I want people to listen to my records and understand where they’ve come from, and understand the person that I am,” she told The Independent.
Glynne also opened up about how she was “terrified” at one point after leaving her label Atlantic Records. “I was absolutely terrified,” she recalled. “I was like: ‘Oh my God, what have I done?’ Massive moments of doubt, massive moments of fear because I was all alone. I’d no-one in my career supporting me at that point.”
She then shared that the only way she could move forward with her music career was by being unapologetically herself.
Back in 2019, Glynne was banned from performing at the Isle of Wight festival after pulling out of her performance only moments before she was due on stage.
Isle of Wight festival, promoter John Giddings said: “She will never be booked to play the Isle of Wight again. It shows no regards for people that bought a ticket. It’s so sad that an artist would do that to their fans. She’s let them down.”
She was then re-booked to perform at the 2021 Isle of Wight Festival, causing people to raise eyebrows on social media.
In a statement issued with the line-up announcement, representatives of Glynne said: “The Isle of Wight Festival and Jess Glynne have unfinished business and both are delighted that she will be returning next year. Jess is coming back for her fans and will have a show for you that will not disappoint, so get ready.”
In other news, the singer previously opened up about falling “out of love with music” during her 2019 world tour.
The singer gave an interview to the The Telegraph, where she told them she was “deeply unhappy” with music. She further cited her grandmother’s and friend’s passing and being “really burnt out” as the reasons for her hiatus.
Glynne also revealed she received a number of death threats following her use of a transphobic slur in 2021.
