Klaus Iohannis retired from his teaching position in Sibiu, which he kept blocked for 27 years
The Chair of Physics Professor of President Klaus Iohannis at the “Samuel von Brukenthal” National College in Sibiu has become vacant and can be filled by tenured professor. After a period of more than 20 years in which the position was reserved, it became vacant because the Romanian president applied for retirement, according to Ora de Sibiu.
The list of positions available for tenure in Sibiu county was published on Monday, April 29, 2024. Among them is one of the positions of a teacher for the discipline of Physics at the Brukenthal College in Sibiu, with teaching in German, which consists of 18 hours, representing a full chair.
The spokesperson of the Sibiu County School Inspectorate, Constantin Dincă, clarified for Ora de Sibiu that the Romanian president submitted his request for retirement for the position of physics teacher, citing the age limit. Thus, the vacant position could be that of Klaus Iohannis.
This position is included in the list of vacancies for employment for a fixed period of 4 years and can be filled by a candidate with a permanent position, who must obtain a grade or average of at least 7 in the Entitlement examination.
The Presidential Administration confirms the information and transmits that “Mr. President has initiated the steps provided for by the legislation in force to submit the retirement file for age limit”.
Klaus Iohannis will reach retirement age, 65, on June 13.
The “Samuel von Brukenthal” National College sent in 2019, in a response to the romaniacurata.ro website, that one of the physics chairs is “reserved”, starting in 2000, by Klaus Iohannis. He invoked two articles from the Education Law no. 1/2011, according to which tenured teaching staff who hold other public positions have the right to reserve the teaching position during the period in which they perform these positions. There is no time limit for reserving a chair, and that period is considered seniority.
Klaus Iohannis won the first mandate as mayor of Sibiu in 2000. In November 2019, Iohannis won the first mandate as president.
According to his biography on the website of the Presidential Administration, Klaus Iohannis attended the German school in Sibiu, the “Samuel von Brukenthal” High School, and in 1978 he was admitted to the Faculty of Physics of the “Babeș Bolyai” University in Cluj-Napoca. In 1983, he started teaching at several schools around Sibiu, and five years later he was teaching physics at the high school he had graduated from – “Samuel von Brukenthal” National College.
