[1] Feds: Cannabis seizures in New Mexico to continue – State officials are trying to figure out how to navigate the federal government’s declaration that it won’t stop federal seizures, fines or arrests for marijuana; despite it being legal in New Mexico. The New Mexico Cannabis Chamber of Commerce said that federal agents have seized more than $300,000 worth of product from licensed businesses. The U.S. Border Patrol says people who break the law at border patrol checkpoints may be fined, arrested and their product may be seized. The director of the state’s Cannabis Control Division says if licensed cannabis companies are having their products seized to contact them.

[2] Final 2022 UNM shooting suspect takes plea deal – Eli’sha Upshaw, the final suspect in the planned ambush of an NMSU basketball player that ended in the shooting death of a UNM student, is accepting a plea deal. In court, Upshaw pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery. Three other charges were dropped in the deal.

[3] Cooler and rainier weekend around New Mexico – A backdoor cold front has moved into central New Mexico Friday morning, bringing cooler morning temperatures for central and eastern New Mexico. The cold front will surge west again Saturday morning, bringing strong east canyon winds, up to around 45 mph into the Metro during the morning. Winds will die down throughout the late morning. The Rio Grande Valley will be around 5 to 10 degrees cooler on Saturday with partly cloudy skies and a slight chance for a storm Saturday afternoon and evening.

[4] Double Eagle II plan could allow for commercial use of land around airport – Albuquerque environmental regulators signed off on various uses for the land around Double Eagle II Airport. The changes would allow lodging, commercial, light industrial, film studio, educational, and renewable energy generation on the city-owned land surrounding the airport. The city says any new development would still need to go in front of the council and align with FAA guidelines to ensure it would not conflict with airport operations. 

[5] Mayor’s day of volunteer recognition – The city of Albuquerque is honoring volunteers with the 9th annual Mayor’s day of volunteer recognition. The event recognizes people and groups who have volunteered and and had a positive impact on the city. The event is free to attend, but you must register online. The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. at the Albuquerque Museum.
