[1] NMSP, Bernalillo County District Attorney will not review APD chief’s crash – New Mexico State Police told News 13 they will not be reviewing APD Police Chief Harold Medina’s car crash. The Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office also tells News 13 they are forwarding the case to a different agency. APD says the Internal Affairs Department has 120 days from the incident to complete its investigation. The Superintendent of Police Reform, who answers to Mayor Tim Keller, will then review it along with an internal monitor—retired judge Victor Valdez.

[2] Albuquerque man sentenced in 2021 double vehicular homicide – An elderly couple were killed when Omar Martinez ran a red light and hit them going almost 90 miles per hour in July of 2021. Court documents show that Martinez had fentanyl, ketamine, and other drugs in his system. On Thursday, he was in front of Judge Brit Baca-Miller for a sentencing hearing, She sentenced him to 30 years and that the two crimes would run consecutively and then suspended 10 years. Martinez will only have to serve 10 years in prison if he receives good time. He will then serve five years of probation.

[3] High winds return with showers and cooler temperatures – Clouds are pushing over the state, but sunshine will increase midday through the afternoon, from west to east. Winds are light this morning, but high winds are expected across New Mexico today. Winds will stay gusty through the night as a strong cold front moves east across the state.

[4] $4.2M allocated for Gibson sobering center – Leaders gathered at the Gibson Medical Gateway Center on Thursday to celebrate more than $4 million in funding for the sobering center. Last week, U.S. Senator Ben Ray Lujan secured $15 million for 26 New Mexico projects including investments in flood and fire mitigation, health care access, small business support, and workforce development

[5] New 3-business concept along Route 66 combines food, drinks, and pickleball – A new three-business concept combines food, drinks, and pickleball is in the works near Old Town in Albuquerque. The Pickle Baller will feature a full-sized pickleball court located in the middle of the three businesses. On the inside of The Pickle Baller, visitors will find a bar/lounge that will serve drinks and food. Across the pickleball court is where Tiny’s, a food truck concept, will operate out of a small Airstream trailer. Both The Pickle Baller and Tiny’s are in the construction phase and should open in June and May.
