Lobos running back room continues to be deepest on team

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – While the Lobo football team only won four games last season, one of the bright spots surrounding UNM was the running back group. Even with the departure of the teams leading rusher, Jacory Croskey Merritt, new head coach Bronco Mendenhall said that running back is the team’s deepest position this offseason.

The Lobos are led by 2023’s second leading rusher, Andrew “Dolla” Henry. The super-senior actually began 2023 as the team’s main back in training camp before suffering multiple injuries. Now, Henry is joined in the backfield by Iowa State transfer Eli Sanders and Arizona State transfer Javen Jacobs.

“Everyone in the room just competes really hard, every day wants to compete and every day we push each other to want to get better in the classroom, on and off the field,” said Sanders.

Other running backs currently listed on the roster include Ray Iwai, Jaylen Morgan and Josh Perry.

UNM spring practices will run through April 27 and all practices are closed to the public. The Lobos spring game open to the public will take place on Saturday, April 20 at 1 p.m.
