Todd Perchert was driving his Mustang to meet up with a car club when he was hit by Medina. On his way to a news conference and driving in his unmarked police unit, Chief Medina says he spotted a homeless camp and circled back to check it out. The chief said he and his wife saw a man brandish a gun and then heard a shot and that’s when he sped off to get out of the situation.

Perchert’s attorney says they have questions about why Medina stopped in the first place and without his lapel camera on. The attorney says they are not calling for the Chief’s resignation, but are looking for accountability.
