ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – On Friday, it was an emotional morning at Presbyterian Hospital; they celebrated organ donors for National Donate Life Month.

New Mexico set a new record in 2023 for donations of organs and tissues from 95 donors, which resulted in 241 life-saving transplants.

“It’s really wonderful to see the story full circle. In somebody’s worst day, they’re able to help somebody in need and save a life so that loved one leaves a lasting legacy that inspires hope and hopefully generosity across the nation,” stated NM Donor Services External Affairs Director Celina Espinoza.

Additionally, in 2021, Addison Bell passed away from an overdose. His mother spoke at the event and celebrated the three lives he saved by choosing to be a donor.

New Mexico was named the “second kindest state” with 53% of the population registered as organ donors.
