Newly created ‘Middle Rio Grande Housing Collaborative’ will soon have its first meeting

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque area is facing a lack of affordable housing options. But now, local governments are coming together to try to address the issue.

The Middle Rio Grande Housing Collaborative was created to “address the overwhelming need for affordable housing,” according to Bernalillo County. The collaboration between the county and the City of Albuquerque will have its first meeting on Thursday, March 28.

“This collaborative took many months to come together and I am excited about the work of the members that will result in tangible solutions to the housing crises we are currently facing,” County Commission Chair Barbara Baca said in a press release. “By combining our resources and revenue, we can more effectively address the needs of our constituents and leverage federal and state funding for much-needed affordable housing.”

The newly formed collaborative is made up of five members chosen by the city and the county. They will be introduced at the inaugural meeting. There will also be time for public comment.
