NMDOH: Take a walk! It’ll improve your mood and health

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The state’s Department of Health is asking New Mexicans to stress less and walk more. Wednesday is National Walking Day and NMDOH’s Disease and Stroke Prevention Program is reminding everyone how a short 15-minute walk every day can make a big difference in your physical and mental health.

The DOH says one in four adults sit for longer than eight hours each day which can have negative health impacts. A recent study from the American Heart Association shows that swapping just 30 minutes of sitting with low-intensity exercise reduces the risk of death by 17%.
