Sardinia, the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, located west of Italy, now offers even closer connection to the surroundings with nude beach weddings.
Is Benas beach, located on the west coast, may also become a destination for naturist weddings, after the local authorities decided to allow couples to marry and say their vows there as they were born, meaning without any of the coat, according to CNN.
Luigi Tedeschi, the mayor of San Vero Milis, the closest town to this beach, said that the authorities got the idea when a German couple wrote to them to ask if it would be possible to get married on the beach, which it is 2 years old and has a special area for nudists.
Tedeschi – who came up with the idea of opening the beach to nudists – is aware that the idea of officiating a marriage in the nude can cause amusement, but says that for him the matter is very serious.
“I think we live in a difficult time for people’s freedom, with so many nationalist movements in Europe. People protest, are arrested by the police or intimidated. Therefore, I think we need to do some things to show that people are free. Most people want freedom,” the mayor said, adding that that the central part of Is Benas beach has always been frequented by nudists.
Tedeschi also said that absolutely no one in the town, which has a population of 2,500 people and 30,000 in the summer, has complained about the nudist beach or the idea of officiating marriages here. “There were a few jokes about how I would be dressed for the ceremony, but that was it. In principle, everyone agrees with the initiative,” he said.
The mayor also pointed out that there is an intention to create a network of naturist beaches throughout Sardinia. “We can create a circuit where naturists can find hospitality and we can attract a very decent type of tourism.” He noted that unlike regular beaches, where visitors leave behind trash, “the naturist area is always clean.”
