In March 2019, Rodrigo García revealed that a TV adaptation of his father’s iconic work was in development at Netflix. “For decades our father was reluctant to sell the film rights to One Hundred Years of Solitude because he believed that it could not be made under the time constraints of a feature film, or that producing it in a language other than Spanish would not do it justice,” García stated.

“But in the current golden age of series, with the level of talented writing and directing, the cinematic quality of content, and the acceptance by worldwide audiences of programs in foreign languages, the time could not be better,” he added.

In April 2024, Netflix released a teaser trailer for the series and announced that it would debut sometime in 2024. Alex García López and Laura Mora directed the episodes. José Rivera, Natalia Santa, María Camila Arias, Camila Brugés, and Albatrós González penned the scripts. The production took place in various locations in Colombia, including La Guajira, Cesar, Tolima, Cundinamarca, and Magdalena.

One Hundred Years of Solitude Netflix stars Claudio Cataño as Colonel Aureliano Buendía (adult) and Susana Morales as Úrsula Iguarán. The cast also includes Marco González as Jose Arcadio Buendía, Ella Becerra as Petronila, and Carlos Suaréz as Aureliano Iguarán. Additionally, Jerónimo Barón as Aureliano Buendía (child) and Santiago Vásquez as Aureliano Buendía (adolescent) are also part of the cast.
