Prysmian, one of the most important cable manufacturers in Romania and in Europe, has started construction of a new production line at the Slatina energy plant, following a 23-million-euro investment.

The new production line represents a direct investment of the company on a three year period, and will increase the capacity of the factory by 12.000 tons per year.  The cables to be produced in the new line are mainly intended for electricity distributions to the population. With this investment, Prysmian will increase the capacity of the plant with 6 new production lines. Since 2005, Prysmian has invested 75 million Euro in its plants in Slatina.

The new production lines will increase the number of jobs and are designed to increase the factory volume by 20 percent. These production lines will both upgrade existing lines and add new production capacity.

“We are delighted to have been able to start this investment in the Slatina factory. Here we have secured the raw material to produce our cables, right from the factories on the Slatina industrial platform. Here we have the largest telecom factory in Europe and here we want to demonstrate that we can have one of the most modern electrical cable factories. At the same time, Prysmian’s factories in Slatina are oriented towards saving resources, but also protecting the environment, and in the energy factory one of these new cables will be made with an innovative technology that ensures a reduction of CO2 emissions by one ton per kilometer of cable produced”, said Daniela Burca, COO Prysmian Romania.

Prysmian’s energy plant in Slatina produces more than 35,000 tons of different types of electrical conductors per year, which are found in the most common electrical appliances: from construction and industrial networks to medium and high voltage cables for underground or overhead transmission networks. The factory in Slatina exports electric cables and conductors to the main electricity suppliers in Europe and the United States every year.
