Record Store Day 2024 is almost upon us – check out the full list of exclusive releases this weekend below.

The event celebrating independent record stores around the world will return on Saturday (April 20) – giving fans the chance to buy special one-off collectable releases on vinyl, cassette and more from hundreds of artists – including The 1975, David Bowie, Daft Punk, Talking Heads, Paramore, Blur, Lily Allen, Gorillaz, Elton John, Paramore and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

This year marks the 17th edition of the event, and it comes after the news that vinyl sales rose by nearly 15 per cent in the first nine months of 2023, despite the ongoing dominance of streaming services.

“We are so excited for the best day of the year to return,” said Scott Gamble of Leeds’ Crash Records, one of the participating stores. “Seeing the world’s music fans making the effort to queue up outside record shops near and far, building friends in their search of these exciting releases is amazing. It is so humbling to see this support and to make these fans happy.

“Every year I think we can’t top the last, but the list constantly impresses with literally something for everyone! See you in the queue on 20 April!”

Following in the footsteps of the likes of St Vincent and Dave Grohl, this year’s Record Store Day ambassadors have been named as Paramore and Kate Bush.

Paramore had previously admitted there was a “level of uncertainty” about their future. Their final album on their contract, ‘This Is Why‘, was released that year, meaning they had fulfilled all obligations to their previous label Atlantic. Paramore wiped all their social media accounts shortly afterwards, prompting speculation that the band’s future may be done for good.

The band later confirmed that they are “freshly independent” and will continue to make music together. They also revealed they will be this year’s Record Store Day Ambassadors, telling fans: “After a long career in the music industry we have decided to announce that… we are going to continue to have a long career in the music industry (sorry for any inconvenience).

“Our first order of business as a freshly independent Paramore is to shine a light on independent records stores — a vital part of our journey from music obsessed school friends to professional music makers. With that being said, we are humbled to be your Ambassadors for Record Store Day 2024. The timing feels kismet.”

“The discovery of music was always meant to be romantic,” they continued. “Indie record shops are some of the only spaces we’ve got that offer a tangible, tactile experience of music discovery. In this world that feels more disconnected and hostile than ever, it feels important to remain in touch (literally) with what inspires us, empowers us, or simply brings us joy.

“Thankfully, for all our sakes, there still survives among the chaos, the purity and radical simplicity of a great record store.” They then signed off with “Independently yours, Paramore”.

The emo giants’ first order of business was to release their cover of Talking Head’s ‘Burning Down The House’ from the upcoming star-studded ‘Stop Making Sense’ tribute album, before it emerged that their rendition would be released for Record Store Day 2024 backed by David Byrne’s cover of their own ‘Hard Times‘.

Bush, meanwhile, said in a statement: “What a huge honour to have been asked to be [an] ambassador for this year’s Record Store Day. It really is a great privilege.

“Isn’t it great to see how the resurgence in vinyl has taken the music industry by surprise? It had decided to leave vinyl far behind, but it would seem that not everyone agrees! I love that!”

Bush continued: “I know there are many, many artists who are just as excited to see the audience turning the tide.”

To celebrate her involvement, she will release a special 10-inch vinyl edition of her song ‘Eat The Music’, which originally appeared on her 1993 album ‘The Red Shoes’. It’ll boast the original artwork, printed directly onto the disc.

Bush explained: “It’s been fun putting designs together for some of the previous RSDs. This year’s design echoes the cancelled release of ‘Eat The Music’ as the first single from the album, ‘The Red Shoes’.

“The image was intended to be on the cover of the single bag and is now on the disc as a UV print. The title, ‘Eat The Music’, is meant to be a playful nod to ‘If music be the food of love, play on’, from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.”

Last year, the event proved to be highly successful, helping vinyl sales to soar by 122 per cent in the week that it took place. According to Official Charts Company data, 190,000 vinyl records were sold in the seven-day period, surpassing CD sales. Overall, physical sales were up 37.2 per cent week-on-week as well.
