Rio Rancho wins Sal Puentes memorial tournament

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – The annual Sal Puentes memorial baseball tournament hosted by Rio Rancho wrapped up on Saturday. The host Rams once again played in the championship game against Sandia.

The Matadors claimed the first run of the game off the bat of Adriel Figueroa-Brito in the 5th inning. The junior second basemen ripped a shot down the third base line to score a runner from first, but that would be Sandia’s only run of the game.

In the following inning, the Rams squeezed in a run off the bat of Ryan Lewis to bring in Adian Gallegos. That tied the game, and would eventually send the game into extra innings.

In the 9th, Rio Rancho loaded the bases with two outs. Sandia pitcher Talan Barraza briefly got out of the jam by striking out a batter for a third out, however the pitch was low and got passed the catcher. All runners advanced on the dropped third strike, and the Rams got the win 2-1.
