Santa Fe council approves historical women marker proposal

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Santa Fe is honoring the contributions of three New Mexican women along some of their roads.

This week, the city council voted on moving forward with a proposal that would create historical markers in their name.

Dona Teresa De Aguilera Y Roche, Myra Ella Jenkins, and Dorothy McKibbin are the three women who would be honored with a site.

All three locations are located along East Alameda Street and were selected with the help of the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

According to city documents, the historical markers would be situated in a 15-foot by 15-foot parcel of land.

The program manager for the New Mexico Historic Women Marker Program said this was the “culmination of a very long process,” and they are now planning the installation ceremonies.
