Some 1,500 children, including their parents and caretakers, converged on Paulus Park searching for treat-filled plastic eggs recently — nearly unfazed by the snow on the ground — as part of the “Egg Hunt.”

The rain-or-shine annual event is a popular springtime one in the village, with kids age 2 to 12 split up by age group to hunt down the goodies.

“Our vibrant community never fails to impress,” Marisa Boynton, special events recreation supervisor in the Park and Recreation department, told Pioneer Press.

This year’s event, which began at noon on March 23, also included some egg-themed photo op boards where families could capture memorable photos from the day. Also, Joe and Dough “popped up” to sell coffee and homemade doughnuts.

Still, kids were immersed in finding as many of the 16,000 hidden colorful eggs — which were filled with such treats as chocolate bunnies, Tootsie Rolls and small toys — as they could.

“We also had allergy free candy available” said Boynton.

Boynton said the Park and Recreation department offers the at no charge to the community.

“We were thrilled by the attendance at the event, despite the challenging snowy conditions during the hunt!” she said.
