Oak Lawn Community staff lauded for dedication
The Oak Lawn Community High School District 229 Board of Education recognized four employees for their exceptional dedication, commitment and excellence in service at a recent meeting.
Recipients of Spartan Excellence Awards included Art Teacher Jennifer Clark, Science/EL Teacher Stephanie Dominguez, Director of Buildings and Grounds Joe Giglio Jr. and School Counselor Tim Krupa.
“We are incredibly proud to recognize the outstanding contributions of these individuals,” said Rob Loehr, board president. “Their dedication and hard work embody the values and ethos of District 229, and we are truly fortunate to have such talented individuals as part of our school district.”
Two from area nominated for honor at Augustana College
Two seniors from Augustana College seniors were nominated to submit a profile to appear in the college’s “More Than I Imagined” series after they achieved remarkable academic or personal growth.
Grey White, a business administration-management, theatre-musical theatre major from Mokena, was nominated by theater instructor Michael Turczynski.
“He has excelled in roles both on stage and off, making his passion for the art evident in every project he works on,” Turczynski said. “He always approaches every challenge with a great attitude and willingness to do it right. The future is bright for him no matter what path they choose, and I am so excited to see what the future holds for him.”
Brianna Ebenroth, a psychology; sociology and anthropology double major from Frankfort, was nominated by Adam Kaul, professor of anthropology, sociology and social welfare.
“She is always genuinely excited to learn something new or to share something she’s learned with others,” Kaul said. “She has that natural ability to connect to those around her, too. We know that she is going to excel in her graduate program and well beyond.”

Father Perez Knights of Columbus Council 1444 based in Chicago’s Mount Greenwood neighborhood inducted 15 men into the order during ceremonies on Palm Sunday at St. Christina School Hall.
New members include Rick Antonsen (St. Cajetan Parish); Jim Baker (Our Lady at St. Germaine Parish); Matt Banko, Mark Walsh (St. John Fisher Parish); Andrew Canedo (St. Damian Parish); Tom Collins (St. Terrence Parish); Brian Crivellone, Kevin Doherty, Marvin Otten, Liam Ryan, Zach Pentek (St. Christina Parish); Dennis Ferriter, Taylor McPherson (St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish); Sean Hickey (St. Gerald Parish); and Tom Savory (Most Holy Redeemer Parish).
One of the new Knights is now a member of Our Lady of Fatima Council #3582 while the others are the newest members of Father Perez Council.

More than 25 Augustana College students participated in Augustana’s OperX performance of ‘”Amahl and the Night Visitors’” in February.
Participating students included Homer Glen’s Alyssa Ogrodny (Manager), Mokena’s Maddy Overstreet (Shepherd) and New Lenox’s Miranda Tyda (Shepherd).

Orland Park’s Delise accepted at Palmer College of Chiropractic
Orland Park’s Angelina Delise has been accepted for enrollment for the 2024 spring trimester in the General Science, Bachelor of Science program at Palmer College of Chiropractic’s Main Campus in Davenport, Iowa.
