System of a Down & Deftones to Headline Golden Gate Park’s First Nighttime Concert

System of a Down and Deftones are set to perform the first after-dark performance at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco this August. Promoter Another Planet Entertainment announced the groundbreaking event Tuesday (April 9), alongside Live Nation; it will also feature performances from The Mars Volta, Viagra Boys and VOWWS.

The event will take place on Aug. 17 in Golden Gate Park’s Polo Field, where fans will be able to take in the rock performances under the stars and among the trees. The performance will mark System of a Down’s only performance this year outside of their own sold-out Sick New World Festival in Las Vegas.

“We are excited to be bringing such an iconic lineup to the city and what better venue than Golden Gate Park,” said Another Planet Entertainment president of concerts and festivals Allen Scott in a release. “We are expecting fans from not just the Bay Area but from across the U.S. and internationally to travel to the city injecting money into the local economy. From hotels to local restaurants and everything in between, this will be a great night of music and a great economic boost for the city.”

Golden Gate Park has been hosting daytime concerts since 1967. Legendary artists including Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Neil Young have all played the park over the past 55 years.

GA tickets for the event will start at $169, with VIP tickets starting at $399. Artist presale will begin Wednesday at 10 a.m. PT, with Another Planet Entertainment’s presale beginning Thursday at 10 a.m. PT. General onsale will begin Friday at 10 a.m. PT.
