Released in 2019, Netflix’s Spanish thriller film The Platform enthralled both the general audience and critics. It tells the story the unique story of a vertical prison where food is delivered on a moving platform. A sequel has been in the works for about a year. Is there The Platform 2 release date?
The Platform 2’s release date could arrive by mid-to-late 2024.
In May 2023, Netflix announced that a sequel to The Platform was in development. “We started filming the film full of enthusiasm, wanting to expand the universe of El hoyo with a plot full of surprises, obstacles, new characters… and old friends,” director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia said at the time.
The filmmaker also offered some hints about what the audience can expect in the upcoming movie. “We want this second installment to be an exciting physical journey that allows us to enter the darkness, into that place where we are afraid to look.”
In April 2024, Netflix released two stills from the film. As The Platform 2 is one of the most anticipated Netflix projects, not much is known about the plot. The logline indicates that there will be someone trying to implement a new law in the vertical prison and might struggle to find people to enforce it. The two cast members announced until now are both new additions to the franchise. We don’t yet know which characters they will portray. Given that Netflix has already begun promoting the film, we can speculate that The Platform 2 can premiere sometime in mid-to-late 2024.

Milena Smit and Hovik Keuchkerian are part of the cast of The Platform 2. No information is available on whether Iván Massagué, who portrays Goreng in the first film, will appear in the sequel.
