The Romanian Red Cross inaugurated the National Coordination and Communications Center for Disaster Interventions

The Romanian Red Cross together with the Italian Red Cross inaugurated, today, March 22, the National Coordination and Communications Center for Disaster Interventions. Strategically located at the CTPark warehouses on the A1 Highway, km 13, this Center represents a significant step towards the efficiency of response and intervention in emergency situations.

The National Coordination and Communications Center (CNCC) of the Romanian Red Cross, created in partnership with the Italian Red Cross, was designed to facilitate collaboration and communication, both internally and in relations with authorities and partners, during intervention operations at disasters. Equipped with modern technology and accommodation facilities, the CNCC will coordinate humanitarian efforts and the flow of relevant information in a timely manner to effectively respond to emergencies.

“By inaugurating this Center, we reiterate our commitment to be much more prepared and efficient in the face of emergency situations. By increasing response capacity, strengthening collaboration and adapting to changes in the environment, we can contribute to building a more resilient and safer world for all. We thank the Italian Red Cross for this partnership and we are confident that the National Coordination and Communications Center will bring significant benefits to our communities,” said Adrian Halpert, director general, Romanian Red Cross.

The collaboration between the Romanian Red Cross and the Italian Red Cross was strengthened in the context of the intensification of the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The two National Societies carried out joint actions to help Ukrainian citizens. Thus, in May 2022, an operational base was inaugurated in Suceava, managed jointly by the Italian Red Cross, the Romanian Red Cross and the Monaco Red Cross, with the aim of assisting assessment, logistics and humanitarian intervention operations in Ukraine.

After two years of activity, during which more than 1,400 tons of humanitarian aid were transported to Ukraine, the warehouse in Suceava enters a new phase, being transferred to the management of the Romanian Red Cross. The hub in Suceava, consisting of five modular tents of 200 square meters each, has been dismantled and will form the basis for the development of regional disaster intervention warehouses of the Romanian Red Cross in the counties of Iași, Dâmbovița and Covasna.

In order to support the population in the event of disasters, the Romanian Red Cross inaugurated today the National Training Center for volunteers and its own staff, a space where training sessions will be organized both physically and online, thus contributing to the development and preparation continues of the saviors.

“Investments in technology, logistics and personnel training allow the Romanian Red Cross to be prepared to deal with emergency situations in a more efficient way. Also, strengthening local response capacity, by training and equipping local staff and collaborating with affected communities, can contribute to the development of a more sustainable and effective approach to disaster management,” said Ignazio Schintu, Under-Secretary General, Director of Operations, emergency and rescue, Italian Red Cross.
