Three charged in last fall’s dramatic crash-and-grab burglary at Naperville Apple Store

Naperville police have charged three people in connection with last fall’s crash-and-grab burglary at the Naperville Apple store in which $34,000 in merchandise was stolen and damage totaled more than $300,000.

“This was a very brazen and high-profile burglary, and we’ve had residents asking about arrests since the day it happened,” Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres said in a statement on the arrests.

Christie Lopez, 30, of Chicago; David Fultz, 30, of Rockford; and a third male offender from Maywood, a juvenile at the time of the incident, have been charged with felony burglary, theft and criminal damage to property, police said in a news release Wednesday.

Lopez was arrested March 13 and Fultz taken into custody Wednesday.

The suspects are accused of using a stolen Hyundai Elantra to plow into the front entrance of the Apple Store at 120 W. Jefferson Ave. just before 6 a.m. Nov. 6, 2023, according to police reports. Police arrived to find the unoccupied, still-running car abandoned halfway through the business’ security gate and metal door/glass entrance.

Police did not disclose what led them to the three suspects, who allegedly fled in a different vehicle following the break-in.

“This just goes to show that investigations can take some time, but we do get results,” Arres said. “The persistence of our detectives is unmatched, and we’re committed to catching anyone who commits a crime in our town.”

Naperville Mayor Scott Wehrli commended the arrests in a texted statement Wednesday.

“I’m so proud of the Naperville Police Department for their diligence an tenacity on this case and others,” he said. “Our residents and businesses expect and deserve to be safe and secure. This is another reminder that we do not tolerate crime in Naperville — and our state’s attorneys don’t either.

“We will hold those who choose to break the law or put others in danger accountable.”
