Two Major Romanian IT Companies Prepare Layoffs

Two large Romanian companies specializing in IT have announced to their employees that layoffs will be made. NTT Data Romania, formerly EBS Romania, would lay off several employees, and the process seems to be similar at Cognizant, formerly Softvision, both companies being established in Cluj, according to mass media reports.

“In 2023 we hired twice as many professionals working in our team, compared to the number of colleagues who chose to continue their professional career in other companies. We made the decision to manage a specialized Bench sized at less than 5% of our total employees. We are talking about colleagues who, although they do not occupy a place in production, due to real and natural changes in the market of car manufacturers, have received and are receiving remuneration, training programs or professional reconversion, as the case may be, from the employer. In the interest of correct and complete communication, we emphasize that the share of employees to whom the company has proposed an amicable termination solution does not exceed 2% of the total number of employees and collaborators”, NTT Data informed.

The company EBS Romania was founded in 2000 in Cluj-Napoca and taken over in 2013 by the Japanese concern Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT). In 2015, the name of the company was changed to NTT Data Romania. Founded in 1988, NTT DATA is headquartered in Tokyo and operates in over 40 countries.

Cognizant Technology Solutions Romania (formerly Softvision) in Cluj-Napoca also prepares layoffs, as zcj.ro reports. The company was founded by local entrepreneur Laurentiu Russo in 1994 and bought in 2018 by the American giant Cognizant.
