Universal’s ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ land revealed for Epic Universe

(NEXSTAR) – Universal Orlando on Thursday revealed details of How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk — one of five worlds that will be featured in the all-new Universal Epic Universe set to open in 2025.

The original “How to Train Your Dragon” film, released in 2010, follows the story of a young Viking named Hiccup who befriends a dragon named Toothless and challenges the traditional enmity between Vikings and dragons. Universal Creative and DreamWorks Animation partnered to bring the film franchise to life in the new land, featuring a lagoon that boasts two 40-foot-tall Viking statues, four attractions, one live show, and several character (and dragon) meet-and-greet experiences.

Some of the How to Train Your Dragon attractions include:

Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, a family thrill coaster experience where guests can join Hiccup on his latest winged flying machine, reaching speeds up to 45 mph for a dragon’s eye view of Berk

The Untrainable Dragon, inspired by Universal Beijing Resort’s show, which immerses guests in a live spectacular featuring characters from the film franchise

Dragon Racer’s Rally, which gives guests a chance to practice aerobatic maneuvers and high-speed barrel rolls on two dragon-riding trainers that reach heights of up to 67 feet in the air

When Epic Universe opens in 2025, it will feature more than 50 attractions, as well as entertainment, dining, and shopping options across five “expansive worlds.”

The theme park’s main hub, “Celestial Park,” will feature gardens and fountains, as well as a grand carousel and “Starfall Racers,” a dual-launch racing coaster with a top speed of 62 mph along 5,000 feet of track.

Celestial Park will also serve as the park’s access point to five other “worlds.” Guests will travel through “portals” to these areas, which include worlds based on the Harry Potter, Super Mario and How to Train Your Dragon franchises. There’s also a “Dark Universe” world based on Universal’s monster films, described as a place where “Dr. Victoria Frankenstein’s experiments are intricately woven into every aspect, offering guests a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in these legendary tales.”
