An update has emerged regarding Kenny Omega’s in-ring status following his recent appearance on AEW Dynamite. Omega, currently sidelined due to diverticulitis, was scheduled for a match in December at AEW World’s End. The match was supposed to feature Omega teaming up with Chris Jericho against then AEW Tag Team Champions Ricky Starks and Big Bill. However, due to Omega’s health concerns, the match was canceled.
In December, Omega faced Ethan Page on an episode of AEW Collision, marking his last match. On the recent AEW Dynamite, Kenny Omega returned and confronted Kazuchika Okada. During their encounter, Omega informed Okada that it would take ‘a couple of months’ before their match could take place.
During the Wrestling Observer podcast, journalist Dave Meltzer shared his thoughts on the possibility of Kenny Omega’s in-ring return. He stated, “It’s going to be a long time, I mean he still hasn’t had the surgery and after the surgery it’s going to take months for him to return. I know people who saw Omega and Okada and got really excited, ‘Oh my god, are they going to be wrestling at Forbidden Door?’”
He continued, “Obviously the plan is for them to wrestle, but I don’t think there is a date imminent, and it’s not anytime soon, but it probably will happen, maybe by the end of the year. Obviously Kenny Omega wants it to happen. They did not do this not to do a big feud with Omega and other people against The Young Bucks, Okada, and an Okada, Omega singles match and perhaps other big Omega matches as well.”
