Valles Caldera launches new junior ranger program

JEMEZ SPRINGS (KRQE) – The Valles Caldera National Preserve has just announced a brand-new junior ranger program. The program is designed to help introduce kids to the wonders of the landscape.

“The program begins by conferring the honor of Junior Ranger onto each participant and then invites them to explore the park and learn more about the rich geologic, cultural, and natural stories found here,” the National Park Service said in a press release.

Valles Caldera is a majestic national preserve that sits in the center of a 1.2 million-year-old super volcano. The long-ago eruption of the volcano created a 14-mile-wide caldera, where wildlife and geology reign supreme.

To become a junior ranger, visitors can stop by the entrance station or the ranger station at the edge of the historic cabin district. You can check operating hours at this link.

“The Junior Ranger program is very popular across national parks and has been adopted by many other state and federal sites. Valles Caldera is proud to offer an official program and we look forward to seeing kids of all ages take part in the joy of discovery,” Park Superintendent Jorge Silva-Bañuelos said in a press release.
