Weather drying out and warming up through late week

After a very active, winter like start to the work week much drier weather has arrived today. There is the slight potential for a few afternoon showers across the northeast/east central part of the state while the rest of New Mexico will see plenty of sunshine with little to no chance for additional precipitation. High temperatures will be warmer than yesterday, but still below average for late March.

The warming trend will really pick up into tomorrow as a ridge of high pressure builds over the state. Near to slightly above normal high temperatures will return across the state, even with slightly more cloud coverage. While it may be breezy Thursday, windier weather will arrive Friday as the jet stream moves over the state. Widespread gusts 35-55 mph are likely Friday afternoon, which will create downslope warming and allow high temperatures to warm up even more – likely the warmest airmass so far this year will arrive Friday. Albuquerque will likely see the first 70° day of the year.

Above average temperatures will stick around Saturday along with breezy to windy weather. Winds will pick up even more Sunday ahead of our next big storm system. Widespread chances for more snow, rain, and cooler temperatures return early next week, so enjoy the warmer (albeit windier) weather while it lasts.
