A person was fatally struck while changing a tire on the Stevenson Expressway near Cicero Sunday night, Illinois State Police said.
A vehicle was stopped on the right shoulder of Interstate 55 southbound at around 6:41 p.m while three pedestrians attempted to change a tire on the passenger side. A pickup truck then veered off the roadway into the shoulder, striking the vehicle and two of the pedestrians, according to state police.
One pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead, authorities said. The other pedestrian and the driver of the pickup truck were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The third pedestrian reported no injuries.
The crash is under investigation, state police said.
