2024 El Santuario de Chimayó, Tomé Hill pilgrimages

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Each year on Good Friday many New Mexicans make the trek to El Santuario de Chimayó and Tomé Hill.


Busy Albuquerque golf course gets another upgrade

Some people start their journey in Santa Fe and others walk from as far as Albuquerque. The Santuario de Chimayó is considered a sacred pilgrimage site. and many people make the journey for the ‘Tierra Bendita,’ or holy dirt there; which many believe has healing properties. People take the pilgrimage up Tomé Hill to reach three crosses that sit on top of the hill. Crews have taken increased measures to make sure all people making the pilgrimage are safe. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to stay alert on the road.

KRQE News 13 spoke with some people who were making the journey to El Santuario de Chimayó. “20 years ago I went up to the church with some health problems and I honestly believe something happened to me there. Since then I started doing the walk and I haven’t stopped since. It doesn’t matter rain, shine, snow,” said Pedro Aranda.
