ABQ concert brand performs special concert

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A very special spring concert played triumphantly at Eldorado High School on Sunday.

The Albuquerque concert band performance was special for two reasons.

It’s the last performance for Band Director John Sanks, who has been with the band for 25 years. He will be stepping off the podium down into the tuba section.

The other reason is high school clarinet player Brandon Turney was the recipient of the Bruce Croken Scholarship, valued at $1,500.

As the scholarship recipient, Turney also performed a solo piece and to top it all off, a special animal-themed piece was central to the band’s performance, helping them bring awareness to thousands of rescue pets in the city.
