Air Supply are set to receive the biopic treatment in 2025.
According to Variety, a film reportedly titled All Out Of Love: The Air Supply Story is in the works. The story of the Australian/English duo Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock will be filmed later this year in Australia and the UK.
Named after the 1980 hit single All Out Of Love, the film will examine “the highs and lows of the band’s career and their rise to international fame”, per an official synopsis.
Russell and Hitchcock initially met while working on a production of Jesus Christ Superstar and found success in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s with their soft-rock tunes, including Here I Am and Every Woman In The World.
The release of All Out Of Love: The Air Supply Story will coincide with the pair’s 50th anniversary.
Russell said about the news, “We are absolutely thrilled that the Air Supply story will now be made into a biopic and set for release in 2025, the year of our 50th anniversary. The timing is so perfect.”
Hitchcock added, “What a great occasion to celebrate our 50th Anniversary! And a personal thrill for me to see Graham’s songs be the basis for the biopic.”
Earlier this year, The Music’s Christie Eliezer explored why music biopics remain box office gold. According to data analysts Luminate, concert films “have the ability to bring music fans together and allow them to still experience a concert if they did not have the chance to see it in person.”
In a deeper dive, Luminate concluded, “Movie theatregoers are 70% more likely to have attended a live concert in the last 12 months when compared to the general US population.
“In addition, live concertgoers are 76% more likely to go to a movie theatre in the next three months.”
Last month, it was reported that AC/DC’s Bon Scott would receive a biopic, with Boy Swallows Universe actor Lee Tiger Halley portraying the iconic singer.
Halley, a Fremantle lad himself, was chosen based on his magnetism, which has been compared to Bon Scott. The film, The Kid From Harvest Road, is currently under development, with production due to begin in early 2025.
The film is set to follow a young Bon Scott on the streets of Fremantle, WA, in 1963, with storylines set to showcase the man behind the legend.
