Alstom’s First of 13 Metro Trains Arrives in Bucharest
The first of the 13 Alstom metro trains that will run in Bucharest has arrived at Metrorex’s Berceni depot. The train is produced in Brazil and will be able to travel with passengers only after the tests are completed and approval is obtained.
Alstom trains are long overdue: the contract was awarded at the end of 2020, but there have been numerous production delays.
“The new train has state-of-the-art equipment, 6 carriages, 216 seats and 1200 standing passenger seats. In the next period, the train will be checked and prepared for the stages of tests and specific tests prior to the introduction into circulation with passengers,” reads a Metrorex’s Facebook post.
“The train with the call sign 1402-2402, named “Giurgiu”, is part of the batch of 13 trains destined for Highway 5, purchased based on the contract concluded between Metroex and Alstom Transport SA, on December 2, 2020, following legal procurement procedures. The contract has a total value of 103,244,383.49 euros,” Metrorex also informs on its website.
The train left the Taubate factory at the end of February, was taken by sea to Hamburg and then by road.
“Once it arrives at the Metrorex depot, the new “Giurgiu” train will be checked and prepared for the stages of tests and specific tests.
After completing the tests and obtaining approval, the “Giurgiu” train will travel 10,000 km, after which Metrorex will receive the train produced by Alstom Transport SA and put it into operation with passengers,” Metrorex mentions.
