Did you know that the oldest magnolia in Bucharest is over a century old? It has 100 years old and is located in the yard of a kindergarten in District 2 of the Romania capital city.
In Bucharest, this season, over 1,000 blooming magnolias can be admired.
“There is a legend that magnolia was planted by an Austrian pharmacist before World War II. we like to think that it also helped her to believe the joy she is surrounded by, that of the children, their smiles and love”, says Alexandra Cornilă, director of Kindergarten no. 133.
Kindergarten No. 133 has two locations in Bucharest. Both locations are centrally located in sector 2 of the capital. The common access road for both offices is Dacia Boulevard.
The name “magnolia” comes from the name of the French botanist Pierre Magnol, with more than 210 different species living in the world. Some trees can reach up to 25 meters in height with a crown diameter of 12 meters, and their lifespan can exceed a century.
On 8 Mahatma Ghandi Street in Bucharest, near Kiseleff Boulevard, you will discover a house clad in magnolia, with an interesting medallion on the facade marking the year 1932, possibly the year of construction. This is said to be the largest magnolia in the city, and certainly one of the most photographed.
