David Popovici Grabs Two Gold Medals at Otopeni National Swimming Championship

After the gold medal in the 50-meter freestyle event, David Popovici also finished first in the 200-meter freestyle race at the National Swimming Championship in the 50-meter pool on Thursday.

The main favorite of the 200 m freestyle race, David Popovici stopped the timer at 1:45.10, followed by Mihai Gergely with 1:51.27 and Robert Andrei Badea with 1:51.86.

A day ago, Popovici won the gold medal in the 50 m free with a time of 22.27 seconds. At the Otopeni competition, David Popovici will also be present in the 400 m free (April 20) and 100 m free (April 21).

David Popovici participated in two international competitions this year, the EuroMeet in Luxembourg and the Antwerp Diamond Race in Belgium, where he won both the 100m freestyle and the 200m freestyle.

The Romanian swimmer is present in the world Top 30 of the season in both events, tenth in the 100 meter free with 48.01 seconds and 23rd in the 200 m free with 1:46.90, recorded at the competition in Luxembourg.

Romania has two swimmers qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris; David Popovici and Vlad Stancu. The latter will participate in Otopeni in the 400, 800 and 1500 m freestyle events.
