Eddy County Sheriff’s Office warns of scam

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – Law enforcement in Eddy County say they’ve had multiple reports of an individual claiming to be part of the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office. The scammer claims to be Sergeant Jason Decker, law enforcement says.

The scammer reportedly calls locals and tells them there is a warrant out for their arrest. The scammer may then try to collect money in order to take care of the issue.

The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office says they will not call people trying to collect money for warrants. If you receive a request to send money, you should hang up, the sheriff’s office says.

If you are unsure whether or not a call from the sheriff’s office is legitimate, you can ask for the caller’s name and then check with the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office at (575)-887-7551.
