Feeling like spring in New Mexico for Easter weekend

An absolutely gorgeous, spring like end to the week is in store. It’s finally feeling like how it should for this time of year in New Mexico, if not a couple of degrees above average. Breezy winds will pick up this afternoon, and stick around into tomorrow. Gusts will be 25-45+ statewide, coming in from the west and ushering in drier air. This has created elevated fire danger across eastern New Mexico and the middle RGV, which is why Red Flag Warnings are in effect though 7 PM tonight.

More Red Flag Warnings will be reissued Saturday across northeastern New Mexico and the middle RGV due to gusty winds, dry air, and above average temperatures. Above average highs will stick around Sunday as a storm approaches the state and really whips up the winds across New Mexico. Widespread gusts will be 45-60 mph – make sure to secure any loose outdoor objects for your Easter Sunday and make sure your Easter eggs don’t blow away!

A cold front will arrive to western New Mexico Sunday afternoon and evening, bringing high elevation snow and valley rain. Precipitation will spread east across the state into Monday with more rain/snow likely throughout the day. A backdoor front arriving Tuesday will keep snow and rain chances going across northeastern New Mexico. Drier and warmer weather will arrive mid to late next week.
