Pasadena’s 15th postmaster raised his right hand to take the Oath of Office on Friday.
Silven Zimmerman, a veteran of the postal service for 24 years, officially assumed his new role during a special ceremony that unfolded within the historic walls of the Pasadena Post Office, which was built in 1913.
The oath, administered by Post Office Operations Manager Jolene Fischer, followed a tradition dating back to Benjamin Franklin, the nation’s first postmaster general.
As the postmaster of Pasadena Post Office, Zimmerman will manage a team of 442 employees and oversee the delivery of 250,000 pieces of mail to more than 80,256 delivery stops, in addition to servicing more than 7,888 Post Office boxes. His service area covers more than 134,000 people.
Zimmerman began his postal journey in 2000 as a city carrier in Tampa, Florida. Throughout his career, he held various positions, including driving safety instructor, trainer in Learning and Development and station supervisor in Tampa, Florida, a role he took over in 2015. He also served as a financial specialist and a member of the Gulf Atlantic Hurricane Relief Team.
Prior to Pasadena, Zimmerman, who lives in Whittier with his family, was the Postmaster of Alhambra Post Office, a role he assumed in February 2023.
“To me the title of Postmaster is an honor,” Zimmerman said in a statement. “Being a Postmaster gives me the opportunity of being a committed leader to my postal team but more importantly being committed to the community of Pasadena.”
