Government: Romania Nears Technical Criteria for Visa Waiver Program
Romania’s admission to the Visa Waiver program represents a national strategic objective, and our country is getting closer to meeting the technical criteria in this regard, informs the Government.
“Its renewal in the next six months can ensure our success”, says the Government, on Thursday, in a post on Facebook.

In order to reduce the refusal rate below the 3% threshold, the support of all Romanian citizens who hold or have held the US visa type B1/B2 – business and tourism is needed.

According to the quoted source, a meeting on this subject took place at the Victoria Palace, attended by Romanian and American officials. Deputy Prime Minister Marian Neacşu, the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, Mihai Ghigiu, and the national coordinator for the Visa Waiver Program, state councilor Valentin Vătăjelu, received today at the Victoria Palace Mrs. Rena Bitter, the deputy secretary for consular affairs from the Department of State of the USA, accompanied by the ambassador of the United States of America in Bucharest, Mrs. Kathleen Kavalec, and the Consul General John Gimbel”, says the Executive’s post.
