Historic Treasure Unearthed in Vrancea Forest: 150+ Ancient Coins Over 2,000 Years Old

Historical treasure discovered in a forest in Vrancea. Two young men with metal detectors found more than 150 ancient coins, believed to be ancient Greek drachmas, on Saturday. The treasure has been handed over to the authorities and is to be expertized in order to find out the exact period from which the coins date,  Ziarul de Vrancea reports.

The discovery was made on Saturday, March 2, 2024, in the forest of Poiana Cristei commune, Vrancea county. The two young men were walking through the forest, when the metal detector indicated the presence of some metallic objects. Under the ground, at a shallow depth, they discovered a pile of silver coins.

According to the law, those who find valuable objects are obliged to notify the town halls in the area within 72 hours. The goods are then taken over by the County Directorate for Culture and are evaluated by experts. Finally, the author of the discovery is rewarded, within 18 months, with 30% of the value or even with 45%, if the objects are of particular importance.
