Smith was shot four times and BCSO says he either threw or lost control of his gun during the pursuit. Once handcuffed, deputies quickly started medical care to keep smith alive.

[2] Albuquerque residents express concerns over city’s direction in latest survey – The City of Albuquerque released its annual survey conducted in February with 400 participants. 63% of respondents expressed concern with the current direction of Albuquerque. A major point in the survey was crime, with 56% of people expressing dissatisfaction with APD’s handling of violent crimes and 60% unhappy with the handling property crimes. In response to the survey the city released a statement saying in part, “our priorities are in line with what families in Albuquerque want, and we are working to address the issues that are impacting people every day.”

[3] Unseasonably warm temperatures return around New Mexico – Wednesday will be a warmer day, with high temperatures climbing above average, into the 70s and 80s. The Rio Grande Valley, southern New Mexico and the Four Corners will see lighter winds, only up to around 30 mph. Skies will stay sunny for all. [5] Zozobra ‘gloomies’ performance to return at 100th burning – Event officials are bringing back a fan favorite for the 100th burning of Zozobra. The Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe announced they will allow children to return as the role of “gloomies” for the upcoming centennial burning of Zozobra. Gloomies are children dressed in white tunics that parade around Zozobra in a choreographed dance. Officials say kids should be good at following directions, be comfortable with performing in front of audiences, and should not be afraid of Zozobra. Auditions are slated for June 8 at Fort Marcy Park.
