Tuesday’s Five Facts
[1] Pedestrian injured while APD pursues teen carjacking suspect – APD arrested 17-year-old Dominic Sena Monday. Sena is accused of pointing a gun at a woman as she backed out of her driveway near Central and Wyoming. The woman told police that an SUV stopped nearby because her car was in the road. Sena was unable to get the woman’s car to start and police say Sena then pointed a gun at a second woman and took off in the SUV. APD located the vehicle and performed a PIT maneuver to get the SUV stopped. APD says the officer’s vehicle drove onto the sidewalk and hit a light pole before continuing through a fence. They say a homeless man behind the fence was hit by possible debris. He was taken to the hospital is expected to make a full recovery. Sena was taken into custody and faces multiple charges.
[2] Man accused of illegally selling guns in Albuquerque appears in federal court – A man accused of legally buying guns and then selling them was in federal court in Albuquerque on Monday morning. Police said the weapons he bought were connected to 17 different shootings. A federal indictment says on at least 12 different occasions, 26-year-old Adin Kellner “knowingly made a false and fictitious statement” to workers that he would be the buyer of the gun. When in reality he was purchasing for someone else. In federal court on Monday, Judge Jennifer Rozzoni decided to keep Kellner in the custody of the U.S. Marshal’s Service.
[3] Even hotter temperatures around New Mexico Tuesday – Tuesday will be an even warmer day, with warmer than normal high temperatures, reaching the 70s, 80s and 90s. Winds will be light, and skies will be mostly sunny for most of the state. The weather will stay dry, warm and quiet on Wednesday, before the next storm starts to impact the state. Thursday will be a windy day throughout New Mexico, with spotty showers in the Four Corners.
[4] NM preparing for Supreme Court ruling on homeless camping in public spaces – Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court began to hear arguments over local laws that ban the homeless from camping in public. This after Grants Pass, Oregon began to charge people for sleeping in city parks. Depending on how the court rules, it could be left up to each state on how to handle the encampments on public property. The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to make a decision in late June or early July.
[5] Chicken Salad Chick opening Albuquerque location – Tuesday is opening day for the first ever ‘Chicken Salad Chick’ in New Mexico. The restaurant serves southern style chicken along with fresh salads and sandwiches. They are opening a location on Unser and McMahon. The first 100 guests will receive free chicken salad for a year, doors open Tuesday at 9:30.
