Lake Zurich man critically injured in Port Barrington-area motorcycle crash

A Lake Zurich man was critically injured Sunday when he was thrown from his motorcycle after running into an SUV near Port Barrington, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision happened at around 7:25 p.m. near the intersection of West Roberts Road and Center Street, police said.

The man, 41, and another cyclist were reported to be driving recklessly as they traveled east on Roberts Road. Witnesses said they were driving at a high rate of speed, and weaving in and out of traffic, as they passed other motorists.

The Lake Zurich man went into the westbound lanes to pass a group of motorcyclists. When he returned to the eastbound lane, he ran into the rear of an SUV being driven by a Wauconda man.

The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from his 2012 BMW and suffered critical injuries, including a fractured neck and severe head injuries, police said.

The man was transported to an area hospital. The driver of the other motorcycle did not remain on the scene.
