Last Month Marks Romania’s Second Warmest March in 120 Years

Last month not only brought summer temperatures to Romania, but it was also the second warmest March since there are weather data in the country, according to a report conducted by the National Meteorology Agency (ANM). The absolute maximum temperature for March was exceeded at 70 weather stations, the biggest differences being over 2 °C.

The average temperature of March 2024 was between -5.3 °C, at the meteorological station Vf. Omu and 10.9 °C, at Moldova Veche
The average monthly air temperature for the country in March 2024 was 8.4 °C. Thus, March 2024 is the second warmest month in the interval 1901 – 2024. The warmest month of March in Romania was recorded in 1990, with an average temperature for the country of 8.5 °C.
The average values per country have been positive in the last 28 years, and the general trend in the analyzed interval is increasing, ANM data show.
In March 2024, the absolute maximum monthly temperature was equaled or exceeded, at 70 weather stations. In Iași and Ploiești, records from 1926 were broken.
The maximum monthly temperature in March 2024, recorded at the meteorological stations in the network of the National Meteorological Administration, was 30.0 °C, in Călăraşi, on March 31.
