Man accused of southeast Albuquerque murder held behind bars

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man accused of a southeast Albuquerque murder will remain behind bars. Police say James Gonzales and Destiny Pacheco went to an apartment near San Mateo and Gibson to rob 75-year-old Harry Velarde. Police believe a fight started leading to Gonzales shooting and killing Velarde.

They also believe the two stole the victim’s debit card and used it before being found in Villanueva State Park in San Miguel County. Police also say a bullet that was found in their car matched a bullet from a second shooting the week before where Gonazles is accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend.

Judge Brett Loveless agreed to keep Gonzales behind bars until his trial. Pacheco is also being held behind bars. They are both facing murder charges.
