A 29-year-old man was fatally wounded while he was entering a vehicle Thursday at a shopping center in the Chatham neighborhood, officials said.
About 7:20 p.m., the man was entering his vehicle in the 8600 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when a blue sedan pulled up and the people inside opened fire in his direction, police said.
The man was struck by gunfire to the face and lower body, and was taken to UChicago Medicine where he was pronounced dead. As of Friday morning, he had not been identified.
No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.
