NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Meow Wolf announced its plans to open a new permanent art exhibition in Los Angeles. The California installation will be Meow Wolf’s sixth location, with permanent exhibitions in Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Denver, and Grapevine, as well as one on the way in Houston.
According to Meow Wolf, the Los Angeles location will have “a decidedly Angelino twist” that will “blur the lines between reality and fantasy.” Just like the other locations, the Los Angeles exhibition will feature the work of local artists. “Expect a full sensory love letter to the Los Angeles art scene, its history, and its legacy,” says the press release. More details about the new location are expected to be released in the coming months.
This announcement comes just two and a half weeks after Meow Wolf laid out plans to cut expenses by 10% and lay off 165 employees. In the email to employees, CEO Jose Tolosa told employees that the company overestimated staffing with the model that it launched in 2021.
Meow Wolf got its start as a DIY artist collective in 2008. With help from George R. R. Martin, Meow Wolf opened Santa Fe’s House of Eternal Return in 2016. Las Vegas’ Omega Mart followed, opening in February 2021, and Denver’s Convergence Station opened later that year in September. The Real Unreal in Grapevine opened in 2023, and Houston’s location is set to open in 2024.
