New Mexico gets $2 million to help provide utilities to low-income homes

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico has received over $2 million in federal grant money to put towards utility assistance in lower-income households. The program helps more than 30,000 households in the state as well as tribal communities, the New Mexico Human Services Department says.

“We are grateful to our LIHEAP [Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program] team in the Income Support Division for their work on behalf of customers and to our federal partners for providing additional funds to support lower-income New Mexico families with cooling bills over the upcoming summer months,” Kyra Ochoa, deputy secretary for the New Mexico Human Services Department, said in a press release.
