The Northbrook Park District is offering a chance for families to find out about the early childhood and preschool programs offered by the district at the annual Early Childhood Fun Fair on April 6.

According to a news release, the Early Childhood Fun Fair is designed to give children, parents and caregivers an informative look at our preschool, enrichment and early childhood programs for children up to 5 years old. Entertainment, raffles and early childhood activities will be offered throughout the event.

Families will have the chance to experience the Leisure Center’s educational environment by exploring the facility, including its classrooms and play areas, and meet the district’s team of teachers and staff members, the release said. Staff will engage children in age-appropriate games and activities, so the adults have a chance to learn about which program offerings might best suit their child.

The Park District provides a wide range of programs for children ages 5 and under, including art, nature, tumbling, dance, theatre, cooking, STEM, and sports classes, all to foster social and emotional growth, according to the release.

“We are so excited to showcase our preschool and early childhood program offerings for the community at our Early Childhood Fun Fair. Whether your child is new to our programs, currently enrolled or thinking of returning, this is a great opportunity to learn about what is new and upcoming at the park district,” Erin Sweet, Northbrook Park District Superintendent of Arts and Recreation, said.

Early childhood classes starting in June and July include “I Can Play Two,” for two-year-olds to develop social skills while engaged in playful activities, and “Kindermusik Foundations” for ages 0 to 6, so children and grownups can enjoy singing, dancing, and bonding, the release said.

Preschool enrollment is currently open for Sunshine Preschool, the popular park district preschool program for three-year-olds and four-year-olds, the release said. Sunshine Preschool offers a warm, individualized approach to learning in a small classroom, with experienced teachers who lead young learners in a curriculum that combines play-based learning with structured activities.

Parent Katie Voss praised Sunshine Preschool’s community feel, along with its capable, loving teachers and creative curriculum. Both her children Elton, now in second grade, and Colbie, currently in preschool, have loved Sunshine Preschool, which she’s recommended to friends and neighbors.

“I never had an issue with them coming to school. They always had a great time, and it was a great experience for them,” she said in the release. “I was super happy with that.”

The Early Childhood Fun Fair will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on April 6 at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Ave. in Northbrook. The event is free, and no registration is required.
